The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Prelims) is the first stage of the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It consists of two objective-type papers.

Examination Structure

  • Paper I: General Studies (GS) – 200 Marks
  • Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) – 200 Marks (Qualifying)

Paper II: CSAT (Qualifying – 33%)

• Prelims is a screening test.
• One-third negative marking for wrong answers.
• CSAT is qualifying but mandatory.
